Kumite 組手
An Art, Philosophy & Combat Retreat,
Where we face ourselves together.
June 1-22, 2026 | Kawaguchiko, Japan
The Kumite is an art, philosophy & combat retreat where the pursuit of inner and outer excellence meet.
The Kumite is a 3-week container for sparring—with ourselves, with each other, with words, ideas, and our hands, aimed toward an end goal of identifying new direction, paths and structures of inner and outer creation.
Our program includes individual and group creation and exploration in the forms of:
Connection with nature and form through Ikebana (flower arrangement), hikes, and meditation
Philosophical dialogues to help us better understand each other, ourselves, and our ways of being
Exercises in decision-making and time for work on the areas and projects you identify as most crucial
World-class Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instruction and teachings of self-creation through martial arts
The Kumite’s primary BJJ instructor is Jordan Roth, (Black belt under Koji Shibamoto of Tri-Force Jiu-Jitsu, JBJJF All Japan No-Gi Open winner).
In addition to sparring with bodies, Kumite is a container for the sparring of ideas. Our program will have philosophical dialogues and other activities related to inner excellence, as well as activities to help you challenge and face yourself.
